Weather
The best time is from November to February. For the most part, the weather is cooler and drier. If you are in the north, it can get cold at night.
Prices are higher during this time because it is the high season.
Holidays
Songkran is the Thai New Year and is celebrated in April. It is a fun time to be in Thailand, but it is also the hottest time of the year.
Visa 🛂
Americans can stay in Thailand for up to 30 days without a visa.
If you want to stay longer than 30 days, you have the following options:
- Apply for a tourist visa at a Thai embassy or consulate before you arrive in Thailand.
- Apply for an extension at the Immigration Bureau in Thailand. This costs 1,900 baht and you can extend your stay for up to 30 days.
- Do a border run. This means you leave Thailand and re-enter the country to get a new 30-day visa exemption. This is not a guaranteed way to get a new visa exemption. You may be able to do this once or twice, but it is not recommended to do this multiple times.
Cellular Service 📱
We recommend either AIS or True.
- They generally have the best coverage.
- In some places you will automatically connect to Wi-Fi.
- AIS and True have cafes that you can use if you have a SIM card with them.
eSIM’s are the most convenient way to get cellular service but they can be expensive.
